Pep assemblies

Pep assemblies are what every student’s looks forward to attending. The whole school is smashed into the hot sweaty gym and the spirit comes out.  You get a brief overview of the previous season and celebrate all the accomplishments that have been made.  A slideshow rolls through pictures of action shots of all the athletes, and with each picture comes a small cheer when your friends come onto the screen.

The first cheer starts and every class goes crazy with excitement. The look of despise to the other classes and the feeling that we will bring home the spirit stick is the ultimate goal is within the crowd. Once all the cheerleaders and dance team has performed the captains games commence. This is where two people from each of the fall sports comes down to the main floor and performs a ridiculous stunt. This year they had to roll a small coconut up their bodies to their necks. Since they didn’t have enough coconuts, thanks to the marching band bringing down captains for the first time ever, the football captains got to use and actual football.  This game them an unfair advantage because it was much bigger than a coconut. Regardless it was very amusing to see everything awkwardly try to achieve the task.

Next, the challenges against each grade starts. There is a small stool for each grade to have an elected person for the job stand on that is placed in the middle of the floor. The administration then names different things that people can come down for. An example was, the tallest and shortest person from each grade comes down and whoever had the biggest height difference won.  There are about 8 different competition ideas that they throw out there and after each one they teachers on the floor decide who did it best. Then the grade who won gets a point, at the end they are counted up and the grade with the most points win the spirit stick.

In years past the grade below the current seniors have miraculously won a spirit stick, which is very unusual because it is somewhat rigged where the seniors always win. After they won for the first time their freshman year it was dead silence in the hallways, you could feel the hatred that was brought about them winning. This year my class finally pulled through with our first win and we took the court and cheered.

Pep assemblies bring the school together for some fun, and give us something to look forward to and give us a break from class. They introduce the sports for the upcoming season and let others know when the games are so there is a nice big student section.  It is something that is much needed and kicks the school year off right!
